Making fresh fruit part of a balanced daily diet is the heart of this programme.

The dietary guidance on this page is that of the competent national authority in each of the programme’s target markets, Germany and Spain. Each statement is published with its source and a link to that authority’s own guidelines.

GERMANY | Fruit, a natural part of a balanced day

According to the dietary recommendations of the German Nutrition Society (DGE), a healthy and balanced diet should be based primarily on plant-based foods. Fruit and vegetables, legumes, nuts and whole grains play a central role, with plant-based foods accounting for more than three-quarters of the recommended diet. The DGE recommends consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and encourages variety and seasonal choices. Fresh fruit can be easily incorporated into everyday eating habits, whether as part of a meal or as a convenient snack between meals. European peaches, nectarines, pears, plums and apricots fit naturally into this daily pattern, offering a fresh and convenient choice for enjoying fruit throughout the day.

AESAN recommends consuming at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, including two to three portions of fresh fruit, preferably choosing seasonal varieties. The recommendations also encourage limiting foods high in added sugars and salt as part of a healthy and sustainable eating pattern.
